Evidence suggests that social prescribing significantly reduces primary care demand by 15-28%, primarily by addressing the 20% of consultations that are related to social rather than clinical needs. Key findings indicate improved patient activation, reduced social isolation among the elderly, and enhanced mental health outcomes through community-based physical activity and arts participation.
WHAT WE STILL NEED TO UNDERSTAND
While short-term wellbeing improvements are well-documented, long-term sustainability and the economic return on investment (ROI) in diverse cultural contexts, particularly within the MENA region, require further rigorous longitudinal research. We are actively investigating the role of familial support structures and the specific translation of 'community' in modern urban UAE settings.
